Back to the roots

Every corner of this house tells stories – of encounters, celebrations, and moments that have remained – and new ones that are emerging. With our new concept, "Back to the Roots," we want to connect to the history and soul of this house.

Every good story needs someone to tell it:

That's why we've enlisted some help: Ever since the first plate of Rösti was fried here, it's been here: The Old Host.

He was here before the menu was printed. He was here when the recipts were still written by hand. He knows the names of everyone who came, laughed, and stayed. The Old Innkeeper is not a flesh-and-blood person. He is the memory of the house. And when he tells his story, the past comes alive again.

We look forward to embarking on this journey with you

and invite you to get to know the old host and his stories.

Timeline

The Old Host

For centuries, I've roamed the rooms, fields, and cellars of the Old Tobelhof. I've seen the wood of the house darken, how generations came and went—and how a simple Schüblig became a classic. It's great that you're here. Come in, sit down—I'll tell you something.

My profile

 Name: The Old Host

Born: Sometime around 1790 – I forget the exact year, but the house had been there for a long time.

Residence: In the heart of the Alte Tobelhof – mostly between the wine cellar, the guest room and memories.

Favorite dish: Ghackets with Hörnli – with apple sauce, no discussion.

Favorite spot: The wooden bench in front of the Tobelhof entrance – best in the early morning.

Wisdom: "It's not the ingredients that matter – it's who serves them."

Secret weapon: I can tell if someone is here for the first time – or if they were with me 40 years ago.
